|
|
It took only a small paragraph on folio 14 0f the Stockport Times West Feb,15th to invite us to have our say at a Cheadle area committee meeting to be held at the Ladybridge Residents' club on March 2nd where the public will be given the opportunity to quiz councillors on locaal issues !!!
So once again the venue for the event has been set on the borders of the Bramhall ward , just about as far away as one can get from Gatley and Cheadle , and although very handy for the residents of the Councillor Lane estates it is virtually inaccessible to non car owners.
As this problem has been raised before , without visible result ,I consider that some answers are required.
Can someone provide a list of venues during the last three years , together with details of the cost of hire ?
Is there any truth in the story that the Ladybridge club is the only place where visiting committee members can expect to obtain refreshments ?
If suggestions of political expediency are to be avoided then an alternative list should be drawn up as a matter of urgency
In this election year it is important that every citizen be given equal opportunity to express their opinions on a level platform , so if anybody out there feels aggrieved , have a word with your representative councillor at once.
I am sure that the three Gatley / Cheadle ward councillors will have differing opinions on this matter , so let's be having them gentlemen . |

Elm Road church has a kitchen adjacent to the large hall. Would seem ideal as the hall also has a stage.
Surely the venue should revolve from village to village? _________________ Noli me vocare. Ego te vocabo. |

Or, at least, between the three wards. _________________ Da mihi sis crustum Etruscum cum omnibus in eo. |

Probably about the most inaccessible place in the three wards - at least if you were trying to get there by public transport. Quite a walk from where you'd get the bus.
I went to one of the meetings a couple of months back. Believe it or not, quite an interesting evening watching democracy at work. _________________ Da mihi sis crustum Etruscum cum omnibus in eo. |

Cor blimey, folks, I think they must be listening to us.
I see from Iain Roberts' blog that the April meeting of the Area Committee will be held at Cheadle Library. Hopefully, this is the start of more accessible meetings.
