Apart from cheesey grins in the local party blub, what i would like to see is a list of achievement and results.
The candidate who has done the most for Gatley gets my vote.
To be honest, i am quite disgusted with the govenment which is spineless, when it comes to saying "No" and giving away billions of pounds and awards banks bonuses, earlier in the year the told nurses no pay rise, and awarded themselves a payrise,
Also, claiming for second homes, when people have lost their job and home.
I would like to see a politician on £60pw.
Anyway what has my local councillor done for Gatley, to get my vote.

Hedge, in brief:
Major Results :
1. Secured one way system at St Mary's Church, Lime Grove in Cheadle.
2. Led objection to the proposed development of the Tatton site.
3. Worked with Environment Services SMBC to secure funding and support for Gatley culvert to be rebuilt.
4. Led campaign to get the service area of the cemetery on Manchester Rd completely refurbished and tidied.
Projects on the table now:
1. Working with traffic services to identify if it is possible to get right turn filter on the Cheadle side of the lights, work ongoing to date. Surveys now being undertaken in terms of modelling 2/3 lane exits from M60 southbound and flip flop lights on southbound A34 to allow greater control of traffic. Present findings suggest a reduction of phases to 2 minutes cycles.
2. Pub Watch for both villages. Ongoing.
3. 'Gatley Burial Ground' Old Hall Rd Gatley. Working with SMBC to get wall assessed for structural integrity. Full survey has been undertaken. Trying to get it rebuilt before it collapses. Results this Wedneday.
4. Traffic calming, High Grove Road Cheadle. Have managed to secure traffic survey on this road which has now promoted it to be listed at No 7 on the Councils 'hit list' of things to do next year. On going.
5. Rubbish bins, Foxland Road, Gatley. Request for extra bins near the school. Still being investigated.
6. Have secured the following provision for the coming festive period in conjunction with SMBC:
60 trees, free of charge (5ft) to be divided equally between both village traders. First come first served basis. Traders to provide own decoration.
4 x 25ft tress ( 2 each village) for central display.
More street lights for Church Rd and Gatley Rd.
SMBC to gain permission for big tree to go on Gatley Green + lights.
All trees grown and bought locally, re-cycled when finished.
7. Gullies cleaned, trees lopped, grafitti removed, sewers repaired, tree stumps removed, roads cleaned etc. all ongoing and very busy.
8. Working/negotiating with St Mary's Church to set up a community based sports programme for the children of the Ward for early next year when the new activity area comes on line once Tesco have finished work on the new store.
9. Trying to negotiate a way forward for the Tatton site with the developer and SMBC. Meeting taking place on Thursday 22nd October 2009 More information to follow.
10. In conjunction with Steve Brown Head of Community Safety Unit, SMBC, Probation Service 'Pay Back' Team & Youth Offending Team working to establish a task force to undertake community based programmes. to include:
Litter picks, stream tidies. conservation work, recycling programmes etc. Would welcome ideas for village based projects in the future.

Latest information on Gatley/Cheadle Right Turn Filter Options.
Following discussions with Greater Manchester Urban Traffic Control (GMUTC) and the Highways Agency, several options have been modelled to establish if right turn arrows from the Cheadle side of Gatley Road and/or from the Gatley side of Gatley Road are feasible, safe and do not compromise the capacity of the junction or the M60 on-slip.
As a separate (but linked) exercise, traffic modelling has been undertaken at the M60 on-slip where the existing single lane is proposed to be widened. This has the obvious benefit of creating more exit capacity for the motorway but this would need signalisation in conjunction with signalising the A34 adjacent to the M60 on-slip.
The existing cycle time for the crossroads is currently running at about 180 seconds (it constantly changes according to the weight of traffic queuing on each leg); reducing the cycle time of the crossroads may suit the operation of the M60 signalisation and present more opportunities for traffic to turn at the crossroads at congested times but this has the knock on effect of increasing lost time in between the phases of the signals, leading to longer queues.
To illustrate the effects of any proposed changes to the Gatley crossroads signals I suggest that GMUTC (and specialised Consultant) present the findings using a "real time" screen presentation at Hygarth House within the next few weeks. The traffic modelling programme will demonstrate how any proposed alterations will affect queue lengths and use of road space. If this meets with your agreement, I shall arrange some dates for your consideration.
Information supplied by Traffic Officer on behalf of SMBC Highways Department.
Cllr Mick Jones posted on 13/11/09 to clarify latest position in relation to work ongoing at the Gatley/ Cheadle lights. |
